| a really good show |
[Jul. 2nd, 2008|11:43 pm] |
I just saw fleet foxes, and it was definitely one of the best live shows I've seen. And for the most part, the assembled crowd was polite and quiet for the duration. Fleet Foxes are talented. It was an amazing, amazing show. |

| Petland? What? |
[Mar. 27th, 2008|08:23 am] |
Until now, I believed that Petland and stores like it were no longer in business because I hadn't seen one in ages. It upsets me to learn that one is opening in Austin.
Do puppy mills raise kittens too? I can't stand the thought of puppies and kittens suffering. And poor parent dogs and cats being forced to breed all the time. And all those animals being sold without being spayed or neutered. I keep seeing stray cats and dogs in this neighborhood, and I'm always afraid I'll see one of them get hit by a car. I've seen two big dogs get run over now, and it is one of the most awful feelings ever.
I will never set foot in Petland, and I will not shop at any of the other stores in the Southpark Meadows shopping center as long as Petland is in business there. (Of course, I probably wouldn't drive down there anyway, but I'm putting my line in the sand.)
I'm not a protest kind of guy, but Austin's Pet Directory is organizing a protest at the Petland's Grand Opening on Saturday. |

| I twitch |
[Jun. 7th, 2006|07:30 pm] |
I have an eye twitch. The twitch won't stop. Actually, I went without caffeine for roughly 52 hours, and it did seem to stop. But when I had a sip of coffee this morning, I twitched again. Eye twitch.
My sweet new bicycle arrived today. This is what I got. It is nice. I took it for its inaugural ride through the neighborhood tonight with farlykat. Her bike looks like this in pink and white.
Anyway, the ride was nice. I plan to ride more--especially for the few weeks, and maybe even couple of months, that I go without a car. I don't know how long I can make it, but my intentions are good. And I don't have to drive anywhere to go to work, so that is nice, and if I really have to cross town, I'll just steal a car or take the bus. (Or use farlykat's car.)
Now, I'm going to pay off some debt like a banshee and hopefully find that "stuff" that I've been searching for. |

Farley is feeling better today. His front legs (arms) are healing up fast. And the vet said he didn't need any antibiotics--which is good for we humans.

| DIRTY DOG CLAIMS TO DO CAT GROOMING, BUT I DON'T THINK THEY DO |
[Mar. 22nd, 2006|06:47 pm] |
Dirty Dog Groomers in Austin has injured my cat. That isn't the worst part. The worst part is that when I called to complain, they said they didn't do it. That this probably happened sometime after he got home. I wasn't trying to get my money back. If they'd been nice and apologized for possibly doing it, everything would be over. But they acted like I'm some sort of crackpot, and they said they'd only had 2 incidents ever.
So I called another groomer, and she said that this particular spot is very easy to cut on a cat, and that she uses a special trimmer when she does it. I never told her the name of the groomer, but she said that animals get cut sometimes, and the right thing to do is apologize profusely. If I'd gotten an apology, I'd be satisfied.
Bastards.
You can bet I'm going to be a thorn in their side for a while.

| long john silver's |
[Feb. 12th, 2006|11:01 pm] |
I've really been craving Long John Silver's a lot lately. I've eaten there twice within the last week.
Long John Silver's Platter #8 is good. You get 3 chicken (planks is it?), 2 fish fillets, 2 hush puppies, a dollop of cole slaw, and some french fries--all for under 7 bones.
Arrrr!

Did you know that Rupert Murdoch (the guy who owns FOX News) owns MySpace?
I think MySpace is lame, but now I like it even less. That said, how ironic is it that the man who brings us Bill O'Reilly also provides MySpace--which if you read the latest news--appears to be a sexual predator's dream come true.
I wonder what the greater Republican Party thinks of MySpace. |

Jennifer loves the moose... but she doesn't love it enough for me to leave it up all the time. Sadly for me and Mr. Moose, he will probably only show up at parties or other festive gatherings.
She shook her head when I proposed that he be mounted above the bed.
Figures...

| Friday the 13th, Huh? |
[Jan. 13th, 2006|10:33 am] |
Here is my submission for one of the most unpleasant ways to wake up in the morning...
Mild heartburn from too much wine the night before, rolling over after hitting the snooze button... Fred Paloma, the lovely kitty after whom this livejournal is named, jumps up on the bed and walks across my pillow. I watch him walk away from me towards farlykat, over our heads. Because no one really wants kitty paws on their pillows, farlykat pushes Fred along. At this point I'm in that dreamy, half-awake place. I see cat butt, yet I pay it no mind.
But lo and behold, as farlykat pushes Fred off her pillow, a stream of disgusting feline anal gland secretions shoots out all over my face and my pillow. There is much pulling of hair and gnashing of teeth as I leap from the bed and turn the shower on full blast with hot water... tearing my pyjamas off... crouching naked... splashing water on my face... not breathing... hoping anal gland secretion did not spray into mouth... finally water warms up... scrubbing up with soap and shampoo... gargling soapy water... then just standing there in the shower... groaning... defeated.
~Time Passes~ We took Fred for an impromptu vet visit, and were told that he might need more fiber in his diet so that the glands will "express" themselves when he goes to poop.
So Jezebel needs low fiber/high protein... Fred needs high fiber.
Awesome. |

| What Makes Me Mas Macho? |
[Jan. 11th, 2006|09:23 pm] |
Well, I installed an electrical outlet today and I loosened a stripped, 50-year-old screw from a solid, 50-year-old window frame.
And I have a cuddly-wuddly kitty cat in my lap right now (looking down at Sophie)yes I do; yes I do... oh, who's a good kitty? who's a good kitty? is it you? is it you? yes you are! |
